Journal of the American Institute for Conservation (JAIC)

The Journal of the American Institute for Conservation (JAIC) is the primary vehicle for the publication of peer-reviewed technical studies, research papers, treatment case studies and ethics and standards discussions relating to the broad field of conservation and preservation of historic and cultural works. Subscribers to JAIC include AIC members, both individuals and institutions, as well as major libraries and universities. JAIC is published by Taylor & Francis.

JAIC encourages submission of articles presented at the AIC annual meeting; appearance in AIC's postprints, other conferences, or non-peer-reviewed publications does not preclude submission to the journal.

  • Publication & delivery update: Vol. 57, Nos. 1 & 2 have published together as a double issue. Journals should be arriving in the mail as of mid-September. Vol. 57, No. 3 is in press. Vol. 57, No. 4 is currently on schedule for November publication.
  • Missing an issue? Contact publications@conservation-us.org if you have not received any issues through the end of 2017. Note that three print issues were published in 2017; Vol. 56(3&4) was a double issue. All past, current, and forthcoming articles are published online, should you require immediate access to new research or a missing issue.
  • Note for members: Access to online JAIC articles is available at the Taylor & Francis website via this page.

Contributing to JAIC

We accept articles on a rolling basis -- we no longer have manuscript cycles. You may submit your article via Editorial Manager at any time. Articles are put into the review process as soon as they are submitted.

Accepted articles are published online as soon as the abstracts are translated. We are very excited to offer this feature for our authors.

Presenters at AIC's annual meetings should plan to submit completed articles that fit JAIC's scope to the journal. Note that articles published in AIC's postprints may be submitted to JAIC. Please review our submission guidelines to prepare your article.

If you have questions about whether your topic or manuscript is a good fit for the Journal, you may send a query to either Bonnie Naugle, JAIC's managing editor, or to one of the editors listed above.
