Journal of the American Institute for Conservation (JAIC)

The Journal of the American Institute for Conservation (JAIC) is the primary vehicle for the publication of peer-reviewed technical studies, research papers, treatment case studies and ethics and standards discussions relating to the broad field of conservation and preservation of historic and cultural works. Submit an Article

JAIC encourages submission of articles presented at AIC's annual meeting. Articles published in AIC's postprints, other conferences, or non-peer-reviewed publications may be submitted to JAIC.

Scope

JAIC publishes peer-reviewed technical studies, research papers, treatment case studies and ethics and standards discussions relating to the broad field of conservation and preservation of historic and cultural works. JAIC welcomes short practical or technical notes, topical reviews, material studies, book reviews and longer submissions on subjects of interest to preservation and conservation professionals. Manuscripts are reviewed for their interest and overall suitability for the Journal, as well as for accuracy, clarity, and uniqueness.

The journal welcomes submissions especially in the following areas:
  • Architecture
  • Archaeology
  • Books and Paper
  • Collections Care
  • Electronic Media
  • Paintings
  • Photography
  • Preventive Conservation
  • Objects
  • Research and Technical Studies
  • Textiles
  • Wooden Artifacts

If you have questions about whether your topic or manuscript is a good fit for the Journal, you may send a query to either Bonnie Naugle, JAIC's managing editor, or to one of the editors listed below.

Submission Guidelines

We no longer have manuscript cycles and accept articles on a rolling basis. You may submit your article via Editorial Manager at any time. Articles are put into the review process as soon as they are submitted, and accepted articles are published online as soon as the abstracts are translated.

Please review our submission guidelines when preparing articles that fit JAIC's scope.
