Biographical Information:

Julie L. Biggs has been employed as a Senior Paper Conservator at the Library of Congress since 2000. During this time, she has focused on treatment of works on paper, research on iron-gall ink, and management of collection stabilization and re-housing projects. Ms. Biggs has a BSc Honours in Biology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and a Diploma in Paper and Book Conservation from the Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro in Florence, Italy. She worked as Senior Paper Conservator at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. from 1994-2000, and operated a private studio for more than ten years. Ms. Biggs has taught numerous workshops on iron-gall ink and on bleaching to conservation professionals in the United States and in Europe and has published several papers on conservation topics.
