This year we plan to examine changes in the philosophy and practice of conservation in the 21st century. By revisiting and evaluating past successes, failures, and economic realities, future directions of conservation will be discussed. Possible subjects are: changing requirements for the museum environment; changing treatment materials based on toxicity, sustainability, or availability; introduction of new materials, techniques, or management practices; evolution of ethics, standards, and esthetics in treatment and preventive maintenance.
