FAIC Individual Professional Development Scholarships

Description


FAIC offers scholarships up to $1,000 to help defray professional development costs for Professional Associate or Fellow members of AIC. Proposed projects may include seminars, courses, research, or other continuing education endeavors that support the professional development of AIC members. This award is not available to support expenses for attending the AIC Annual Meeting, with the exception of workshop fees. 

Criteria for Review


  • Merit of the proposed project (seminar, course, research or other educational experience proposed) and its appropriateness to furthering the applicant’s professional development
  • Qualifications of applicant (must be AIC Fellows or Professional Associates)
  • Preference may be given to applicants who will publish/lecture on the proposed project (thereby disseminating knowledge/skills gained)
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have not received FAIC funding within the past three years
  • Budget information: financial need and lack of other sources of financial support will be considered
  • Completeness of application, including letters of support

Application Process


The guidelines and criteria for FAIC’s professional development scholarships have not changed, however, the process of applying had been simplified and is now managed entirely through an online system. We hope this system is more reliable and convenient than our previous system. When you apply for an FAIC professional development scholarship, you will be automatically considered for awards generously funded by FAIC, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Tru Vue.

You will be prompted to login to the system using a login ID and password. If you already have an account with AIC/FAIC (this should be the case if you are an AIC member or have participated in an AIC/FAIC program), use the same login information you use to access that account. If you do not have an account in the system, you can quickly set one up before you begin your application.

The online form will take you through the four sections of the applicatio
n:

1.) Applicant information (name and contact information, resume/CV, etc.) 
2.) Project information (description of the project and how it will help you advance professionally)
3.) Reference information (name and email of reference). You should complete this step as early as possible to provide your references with time to write and submit a letter of support. Make sure to click “SEND REQUEST NOW” to generate an automated email to be sent to your references with instructions on submitting their letter of support.
4.) Budget information (total project costs and FAIC funding request)

You can save and return to your application later to complete it. When you are satisfied with your responses, “save and finalize” to submit your application. Once the application has been submitted, you cannot return to edit the form.

Procedures


The deadlines for receipt of all materials are February 15 and September 15 of each year. Applications will be reviewed and a recommendation will be made to the FAIC board for final approval. Notification of awards will be made six to eight weeks after the deadline. Projects should take place six weeks to twelve months after the application deadline.

Two letters of support must be submitted electronically; it is strongly recommended that at least one letter is from Professional Associates or Fellows of AIC. References will upload letters directly to the application portal. Applicants should enter the names and email addresses of their references as soon as possible during the application process. Once the applicant submits the reference information, references will receive an email with instructions on how to upload their letter of support. References can use FAIC’s Letter of Support Form or submit letters of support in other formats if the author’s signature is included.  Regardless of the format, letters uploaded to the system will not be accessible to the applicant.

Please submit any supporting materials as a PDF (portable document format) if possible.

Apply for Funding


The application will become available available eight weeks prior to the submission deadline.

Final Report


A final report consisting of a 500 - 1,000 word narrative and at least two images is due within 30 days of completion of the project. Final reports should be sent to faicgrants@conservation-us.org and are required to be eligible for future funding. Reports may be published in part or in full by FAIC, including posting on the FAIC website.
