Professional Development Courses in Conservation Education

With the support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and contributions from individuals, FAIC has established an endowment fund for professional development activities. Learn about the current and past workshops, conferences, and online courses organized by FAIC, plus find online tutorials on conservation science and other professional development resources.

The Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation professional development courses are a crucial source for continuing education for conservation professionals in the United States and abroad. Our courses have reached 9,439 people through 322 events over the past 10 years. Many of these are hands-on, lab-based experiences that are not offered anywhere else in the world.

Connecting to Collections Care Online Community Webinars
An interactive resource that connects staff and volunteers at small museums, archives, and libraries with each other and with solid information about collections care.


Conservation Science Tutorials
With the support of the Getty Foundation, FAIC created a series of self-paced modules that review key science principles in conservation.


Collaborative Workshops in Photograph Conservation
A series of workshops initiated by Debra Hess Norris and Nora Kennedy in 1997, with funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.  In 2008, the program became part of the FAIC Professional Development Program, under an endowment grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.


AIC Education & Training Committee
The committee provides expertise in the development of continuing education programs, encourages individual professional development endeavors and promotes the dissemination of current educational information and issues within the conservation field.
