Guidelines for Workshop Proposals at the Annual Meeting

FAIC/AIC work to develop workshops of high quality that cover a broad range of topics to enhance training and education for conservators and allied professionals. We are considering proposals for half-day, one-day, or two-day workshops to take place in New England in conjunction with AIC's 47th Annual Meeting.

Topics may:

  1. Focus on specific materials, specialties, or processes useful to the care of cultural materials at large
  2. Adapt knowledge from allied professions that is pertinent to the Annual Meeting audience
  3. Advance the field of conservation and collection care

Any individual, specialty group, or program committee may submit a proposal for a workshop through the online portal. The proposal submission will be followed by a phone call with FAIC staff to further discuss details of the proposed workshop. A staff member will contact you to schedule this conversation. The form should be submitted no later than August 31, with follow-up conversations taking place the following month. Proposals will be reviewed by AIC/FAIC staff and the Board Director of Professional Education and Training, with input from the Education and Training Committee and Specialty Groups as appropriate. Final approval is subject to review by the AIC board.

Criteria for Review

  • Usefulness to Annual Meeting attendees
  • Appropriateness to hotel/Annual Meeting setting
  • Qualifications of workshop Coordinator - track record of organizational skills and completing tasks on schedule
  • Qualifications of workshop Instructor(s) - teaching ability and experience with topic
  • Financial feasibility - Annual Meeting workshops must be self-supporting, meaning that all expenses must be covered by the workshop registration fees
